ANALYSIS: It's a lost season for the Rays, but Blake Snell has been a bright spot of late. While he continues to be a bit wilder than ideal, Snell has pitched to a 2.25 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in his last four outings, while also posting a gaudy 10.9 K/9. Part of what's fueled that recent success is an improvement in his F-Strike%. Through his first four starts, Snell threw a first-pitch strike to only 52.1% of the hitters he faced. In his last six turns, that mark is up to 63.7%. What has also helped Snell keep his ERA at a palatable level despite the command problems is a miniscule home run rate. Though we should expect some regression there, he does benefit from pitching half of his games at Tropicana Field. And if he continues to make strides with his command, the upside is immense.
