In his first near-full major league season, Billy Burns made a great impression on the Oakland Athletics’ front office and fans alike. He proved himself to be a contact hitter who gets on base and uses his speed to score runs. After getting called up from the AAA Nashville Sounds, Burns started to turn the heads of many fantasy owners as well. The RBI (42) and the runs scored (70) were nothing special, but the stolen base potential and the average were both hard to ignore. He finished the season with 26 stolen bases and a .294 average.
Much like actual Major League Baseball teams, fantasy lineups need role players--especially in roto formats. If your early round draft picks consist of sluggers with low averages, Billy Burns is a great mid-to-late round addition to give your team some balance. Stolen bases are hard to come by and Burns’ speed gives him a large boost in value. His switch-hitting ability also gives owners some flexibility with pitching matchups. There are so many outfielders in the mix, but definitely do not overlook Billy Burns come draft day.
