Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered what looked like a scary injury on Sunday afternoon, but fortunately he seems to have avoided anything serious. CBS NFL Insider Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) has reported that Roethlisberger suffered no damage to his ACL, but did sustain an MCL sprain.
Former NFL head team physician David J. Chao, MD (@ProFootballDoc) noted on Twitter that depending on the grade of the sprain, Roethlisberger could be fully recovered in as little as four weeks. At the same time, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) reported that an undisclosed source claimed Roethlisberger would be out "probably 6 weeks". With no clarification on the grade of the sprain there is no way to determine exactly how long he'll miss. This sort of knee injury is much easier to return from for quarterbacks, as they rarely need to pivot or cut like running backs and wide receivers. Chao also mentioned that Big Ben will likely wear a knee brace for quite some time.
All Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell and Martavis Bryant owners are breathing a sigh of relief, as the Steelers offense has been running exceptionally well with Roethlisberger under center. There is no way that backup Michael Vick would have anywhere near the same level of chemistry as Roethlisberger does. While it may be tough sledding in October, fantasy owners will have their Steelers back at full strength for the fantasy playoff push.
