Adrian Beltre will miss at least two weeks after spraining his thumb in Sunday’s game against the Red Sox, according to FOX Sports.
The injury occurred when the Texas Rangers’ third basemen was attempting to break up a double play at second base. Beltre jammed his thumb, which caused the injury and his immediate departure from the game. On top of the injury, he had to receive four stitches on the thumb, according to the report.
The Rangers won the game in his absence off a walk-off hit by Josh Hamilton, which gave Texas the series-sweep over Boston. Beltre was 2-for-3 with two RBI before he got hurt.
The 36-year-old 18-year MLB veteran had a .251 BA going into Sunday’s contest with six HR and 16 RBI. In four-plus seasons with the Rangers, Beltre has had three 30-plus HR seasons, two seasons with over 100 RBI, and three seasons where he had a .315 BA or better.
Adam Rosales took Beltre’s spot and will likely receive most of the action at third until Beltre returns.
