ANALYSIS: Most fantasy owners didn't want anything to do with the risk associated with Sanchez -- 141 innings the last two years due to finger injuries -- but we can't forget his 15-2 record, 3.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 2016. It's also become increasingly difficult to trust him on a rebuilding Blue Jays squad in a very hitter-friendly ballpark in the daunting American League East. Sanchez had an ERA near 5.00 in just over 100 innings last year and walked almost five batters per nine innings.
Can he rebound if he stays healthy? His first two starts of 2019 tell us he can. The 26-year-old right-hander has allowed eight hits and only two earned runs while walking five and striking out 11 in 11 innings pitched in his first two outings. They came against the soft-hitting Tigers and an injury-thinned Indians lineup, but nevertheless fantasy owners can take the positives away. Returning to his sinker more often could also make him more effective and push him closer to his 2016 level of play.
