The Cincinnati Bengals were beating the Baltimore Ravens 14-0 midway through the third quarter, with neither A.J. Green nor Steve Smith doing anything particularly noteworthy. Then, with about 6:30 remaining in the third quarter, Joe Flacco found Steve Smith on the right side, where he broke two tackles and scampered for a 50 yard touchdown. The game ticked on and soon enough Baltimore was leading 17-14 with 7 minutes left in the game on the heels of a scoop and score off of an Andy Dalton fumble.
Then it was A.J. Green's turn. On the first play after the Ravens' kicked back off to Cincinnati, Dalton connected with Green for an 80 yard touchdown where Green also broke two tackles. He showed incredible balance and speed as he refused to go down, giving the Bengals the lead back.
Baltimore answered quickly, driving downfield and capping off a scoring drive with a 16 yard touchdown to, you know it, Steve Smith on the right side of the end zone. There were now four minutes left in the game, and more points had been scored now in the fourth quarter than the first three quarters.
It wasn't over. Not if A.J. Green had anything to say about it. While Marvin Jones' one handed catch to set up the Bengals in the red zone cannot be overlooked, it was A.J. Green's seven yard touchdown on a beautiful little corner route that sealed the Bengals victory.
Steve Smith's final line: 13 receptions, 186 yards, two touchdowns.
A.J. Green's final line: 10 receptions, 227 yards, two touchdowns, and the victory.
You've just got to give it up when greats go at it like that in the final quarter of play.
