FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (6/11/21): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Juan Carlos Blanco highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 6/11/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

We’re set for a big 13-game Friday night slate that features seven games in venues that rank in the top half of MLB in ESPN’s Park Factor rating. That gives us plenty of hitters to choose from, but there are also some high-end pitching options available.

The most elite pitcher in all of baseball at the moment, Jacob deGrom, is the highest-salaried player on the slate, but there are also some other alternatives in good spots for those that can’t quite foot the bill. The other piece of good news is that it seems possible to put together a formidable array of sluggers without sacrificing too much on the pitching side if one chooses carefully and capitalizes on some scenarios where hitters appear to be a bit undervalued.

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Cash Game/GPP Anchor Play:

Jacob deGrom – vs. SD ($12,000)

If there was ever a case for simply writing a player’s name down and moving on, 2021 deGrom would definitely be it. However, his numbers are so otherworldly that they deserve mention, as he checks in with an 0.62 ERA, 0.57 WHIP, 0.5 HR/9, 45.4 percent strikeout rate and 21.9 percent swinging-strike rate. He boasts a 14.5 K/9 at home specifically, and he just blanked the Padres in their home park over seven innings while recording 11 strikeouts in his most recent start. San Diego also checks in with a .217 average, -8.3 wRAA and .284 wOBA against righties on the road in the last month, and current Padres bats have generated a collective .192/.230/.284 line against deGrom in 94 career plate appearances.

Potential Alternate Play

Clayton Kershaw – vs. TEX ($9,800)   

Kershaw has mostly looked like himself this season, but when he hasn’t, he’s been relatively poor. The last two starts are a shining example, as Kershaw has pitched to a 7.50 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 1.5 HR/9 over 12 innings. However, the savvy veteran has a golden opportunity to get right Friday, considering the Rangers are carrying a .193 average, .574 OPS, -6.8 wRAA and .255 wOBA versus left-handed pitching on the road in the last month. Kershaw has also been better at home, where he owns a 3.55 ERA and 10.9 K/9  across 38 innings and has posted or eclipsed 40 FD points on four occasions already.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Max Muncy- 1B, vs. TEX ($3,700)

Muncy draws an appealing matchup against a pitcher who struggles against left-handed hitters in Mike Foltynewicz, who’s yielded a .318 average, .420 wOBA and mammoth 2.8 HR/9 in that split. Muncy checks into Friday with an impressive track record against right-handed pitching at home, posting a .385 wOBA,.241 ISO and .896 OPS in that split, along with a 27.1 percent line-drive rate and 27.8 percent HR/FB rate. Muncy will also be in prime position to succeed when Folty exits, as Rangers relievers have allowed a 10.93 ERA .311 average and .386 wOBA to the 68 lefty bats they’ve faced thus far in June.

Jose Altuve – 2B, at MIN ($4,100)

Altuve has been consistently productive all season and boasts an impressive .293/.363/.466 slash line with 16 extra-base hits and 28 RBI across 50 games. He makes for an excellent right-handed hitter to throw out against the vulnerable Matt Shoemaker, who’s given up a .333 wOBA and 1.9 HR/9 in that split while generating an abysmal 45.1 percent LOB rate. Altuve has slugged seven of his 10 homers on the season off right-handed pitching, and he’s sporting a .351 wOBA, .208 ISO and 130 wRC+ against righties, along with a 23.9 percent line-drive rate and 37.0 percent hard-contact rate.

Yoan Moncada– 3B, at DET ($2,500)

The switch-hitting Moncada draws an appealing matchup versus young Tarik Skubal, who’s allowed a .304 average, .362 wOBA and 1.63 WHIP to left-handed hitters. Moncada has had his greatest success versus right-handed pitching, posting a .289 average, .877 OPS and .389 wOBA against that handedness, along with a massive 38.1 percent line-drive rate and 47.6 percent hard-contact rate when facing righties on the road. Tigers relievers could make for excellent targets for Moncada as well – they’ve pitched to a 6.75 ERA, .316 average and .424 wOBA when facing left-handed hitters thus far in June.

Jose Iglesias – SS, at ARI ($2,700)

Iglesias heads into Friday swinging a hot bat, hitting .364 over the last three games. He’s also tagged right-handed pitching this season for a .291 average and very elevated 30.0 percent line-drive rate on the road. The Diamondbacks’ Merrill Kelly has given up an identical .291 average to right-handed hitters, along with an .823 OPS, .350 wOBA and 1.8 HR/9. Iglesias is also a very good fastball hitter, posting a .358 wOBA against the four-seam this season, a pitch that is Kelly’s most frequently deployed offering and one he’s giving up a .339 wOBA on.

 

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Avisail Garcia– vs. PIT ($3,000)

Garcia faces a shaky right-hander in Chase De Jong, who’s given up a .400 average and .544 wOBA to the small sample of 16 righty bats he’s faced thus far this season. Garcia has a better batting average versus left-handed pitching, but he’s tagged righties for nine of his 12 homers and he checks into Friday having hit safely in six of his last seven games. Garcia is also an outstanding fastball hitter – he owns a .309 average and .501 wOBA against the four-seam – while De Jong utilizes that offering as his primary pitch and has given up a .451 wOBA when throwing it during his career.

J.D. Martinez- vs. TOR ($3,400)

Blue Jays starter Ross Stripling has allowed a career-high 11.3 percent barrel rate and 41.9 percent hard-hit rate per Statcast, and he’s also been blasted for a .330 average, .404 wOBA and 2.1 HR/9 by right-handed hitters. Meanwhile, Martinez has been doing plenty of damage to right-handed pitching, mustering a .329 average, 10 homers, a .275 ISO, 1.006 OPS and .427 wOBA in that split. He’s also been outstanding in his hitter-friendly home park, as evidenced by an elite .367 average, 1.008 OPS, .428 wOBA and 169 wRC+ at Fenway.

Nick Castellanos– vs. COL ($4,200)

Castellanos has eviscerated left-handed pitching for a .405 average, 1.170 OPS and  .495 wOBA, with the latter number shooting up to an absurd .602 when facing that handedness at home. There are essentially no holes in Castellanos’ offensive profile overall, as he sports a .355/.412/.622 slash line and .440 wOBA, along with a modest 19.3 percent strikeout rate. Rockies starter Kyle Freeland has unsurprisingly had more trouble at his Coors Field home park than on the road, but he’s still given up a .310 average and .385 wOBA when traveling and surrendered a .342 average, .896 OPS and .391 wOBA to right-handed hitters overall, as well as a 6.27 xFIP when facing them on the road. Rockies relievers also check having allowed a .333 average and .429 wOBA to right-handed hitters thus far in June, strengthening Castellanos’ already strong case.
