Bryan Reynolds (OF, PIT) - Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

Kyle Bishop profiles Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds as a potential waiver wire pickup and free agent add in deeper leagues for Week 5 of the 2021 MLB season.

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues

ROSTERED IN: 44% of leagues

ANALYSIS: An unheralded prospect entering 2019, Bryan Reynolds parlayed a red-hot start at Triple-A into a year that saw him finish fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting. That season, he hit .314/.377/.503 with 16 home runs and 151 R+BI in just 134 games with the Pirates. But after limping to a .632 OPS in 2020, fantasy managers largely wrote him off in drafts this spring; the 26-year-old was the 80th outfielder off the board and outside the top 300 overall.

The early returns suggest that was a mistake. Reynolds has essentially bounced right back to his 2019 level of production, with an identical .880 OPS that's a bit more weighted toward the OBP end of things thanks to an increased walk rate. He has five multi-hit performances and has failed to reach base just twice in 19 games. Locked into the #3 spot in the lineup, Reynolds is a potential four-category contributor who's free to add in over half of Yahoo leagues at the moment.
