Points Leagues (H2H) Waiver Wire Adds and Streamers - Week 25

Blake Sullivan dives into weekly Points League strategy for your fantasy baseball leagues and looks at MLB players to target on the waiver wire or drop in week 25 of the 2018 season.

Welcome back for another week of advice for points league waiver wire moves. This segment will include waiver wire adds, drops, and streaming pitchers for the upcoming week. This article will be geared specifically toward points leagues. Every points league is different, so keep that in mind. Walks and extra base hits are more valuable, whereas AVG and ERA are not important, so consider that as well.

Some players will be suggested as streamers (while they are hot), or as rest-of-season adds (ride them all year).

As always, feel free to follow and message me on Twitter @BlakeSullivanFF for any fantasy advice or for further reasoning with this segment. Without further ado, let's take a look at some players that you should either add or drop.

Points League Players to Add

Ji-Man Choi (1B/DH, TB) - 7% owned

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman and designated hitter Ji-Man Choi is having a great stretch of games. In just 51 games this year, he has a .380 wOBA. Choi also has a .280/.362/.540 slash line. He has 13 doubles and nine home runs this season. His power is great for the fantasy playoffs if you're able to time it right. He's on a five-game hitting streak in which he has hit three home runs. He has a .40 BB/K which isn't great, but it's good enough to keep pitchers honest, which will help his power numbers. Choi has a high floor and a high ceiling. Be sure to plug him into your starting lineups for a big week.

Jake Cave (OF, MIN) - 3% owned

Minnesota Twins outfielder Jake Cave has been on my radar for a while now, and it's time to give him a chance. He has a five-game hitting streak and has a good power upside. Cave's batting .295 in September with three home runs and three doubles. He also has nine runs and seven RBI to go along with that. Cave may have the most dangerous floor of the three recommended additions, but his ceiling is high as well. He's all but guaranteed to be available in your leagues with such a low ownership.

David Dahl (OF, COL) - 12% owned

David Dahl is finally getting opportunities for the Colorado Rockies. He has played in just 62 games for the team this year and has posted a .283/.332/.518 slash line. He has plenty of upside when it comes to power numbers with 10 home runs and 11 doubles. Dahl is currently riding a four-game hitting streak. He figures to see more time as the team finishes out the season. He has a .355 wOBA, and offers a safe floor for this week. He also has one of the highest ceilings of any waiver wire guys due to his power.

Points League Pitchers to Stream

Derek Holland (SP, SF) - Tuesday 9/18/18 vs. SD - 29% owned

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Derek Holland has been very consistent lately. He also will pitch in the pitcher-friendly park when he faces the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Holland has a 3.46 ERA and 159 strikeouts on the season. He has scored double-digit fantasy points in his last 10 starts. He has an impressive 9.02 K/9 that can lead to a lot of fantasy points, especially since he has two scheduled starts this week.

Brad Keller (SP, KC) - Monday 9/17/18 vs. PIT - 15% owned

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Brad Keller has a two-start week that includes a matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Keller has a 3.04 ERA this season, and he has gone at least five innings in his last 10 starts. He only has a 6.15 K/9 despite success and a fairly low ERA. Keller has stranded 77.8% of runners, and he may not have too many runners to strand when he pitches against the Pirates. He makes a great addition as a steady point producer for the playoffs.

Felix Pena (SP, LAA) - Tuesday 9/18/18 vs. OAK - 13% owned

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Felix Pena has been on fire lately. Pena has put up at least 20 fantasy points in his last three starts. He has a tough matchup against the Oakland Athletics, but he has two starts this week that will help make up for that. Pena has a 3.75 ERA with 3-4 record. He has a pretty solid 8.38 K/9. Pena may have more risk than other pitchers due to his matchup, but he also has the highest upside of all the pitchers listed here.
