FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (8/23/18): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Tom Vecchio highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 8/23/18, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

We have a split slate of games with only four in the early window and then a four-game main slate. Options are a bit thin across the board, so it could be a time to take a shot in some tournaments, where it's easy to be different.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel on 8/23/18. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.

You can also read more DFS lineup picks for DraftKings and other sports too. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom.

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Jacob deGrom – P, NYM vs SFG (FD - $12,000)

deGrom is facing off against the Giants, who come in with a 23.6% strikeout rate vs right-handed pitchers this season, which is ninth worst in the league. deGrom is simply one of the best pitchers in the league and he has been showing it as of late, with nine or more strikeouts in five of his last six starts. He is at home in a great pitchers park and comes in as a -145 favorite, which should make him a great cash game option on the early slate.

Aaron Nola – P, PHI @ WAS (FD - $10,400)

Nola has allowed three or fewer earned runs in 10 straight games and is now up against the Nationals, who are coming off the heels of a few trades. It's pretty clear that the Nationals' lineup got weaker, so a perfect time to pick on them with an ace pitcher. Nola has five or more strikeouts in six of his last seven games while going at least six innings in five of those games. He is going head t0 head with Max Scherzer, so we should be in for a good game.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

J.T. Realmuto – C, MIA vs ATL (FD - $3,300)

Realmuto has a modest .300 wOBA vs left-handed pitchers this season, but a much better .200 ISO against them. For this reason, he is more of a GPP option, best used as a one-off, searching for that home run upside. He is up against Sean Newcomb, who is giving up a 34% fly ball rate to right-handed hitters this season.

Matt Olson – 1B, OAK @ MIN (FD - $3,700)

Olson is struggling a bit right now, with only one hit in his last four games, but in a nice spot to get things going in the right direction. He comes in with a massive 49% hard contact rate this season vs right-handed pitchers, along with a .239 ISO. He gets a nice positive park shift being in Minnesota tonight and has some home run upside.

Niko Goodrum – 2B, DET vs CWS (FD - $2,900)

Great price on Goodrum, which should make him a prime value play on a short four-game early slate. He comes in with a .319 wOBA and a surprising .230 ISO vs right-handed pitchers this season. Not often you have this type of power for a hitter under $3K, so just lock him in.

Nolan Arenado – 3B, COL vs SDP (FD - $4,600)

Play Arenado today. It can be that simple today if you want it to be. He comes in with a MASSIVE .543 wOBA and a .435 ISO vs left-handed pitchers today. His ISO is higher than some hitters wOBA or AVG. Just silly numbers from him, combined with the fact he is at home in Coors Field, you should be trying to jam him into as many of your lineups as you can.

Tim Anderson – SS, CWS @ DET (FD - $3,000)

Anderson isn't that expensive today and comes in with home runs in two of his last four games. He is facing off against Matthew Boyd, who is giving up a 47% fly ball rate and a 35% hard contact rate to right-handed hitters this season, so there are power and home run upside here.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Nick Markakis - OF, ATL @ MIA (FD - $3,900)

Markakis is up against Dan Straily, who is a fly ball pitcher, a 34% fly ball rate and a 44% hard contact rate to lefties, giving plenty of home run upside. This isn't the best hitter's park, so he is best used in a stack since this is only a four-game slate.

Kyle Schwarber - OF, CHC vs CIN (FD - $3,500)

Schwarber should always be in consideration when he is facing a right-handed pitcher, which is the case we find ourselves in tonight. He has a massive .266 ISO vs right-handed pitchers tonight, which lines up perfectly against Anthony DeSclafani, who is giving up 2.70 HR/9 to lefties this season.
