Digging Deeper: Week 20 Waiver Wire Targets

Max Petrie brings you the best deep MLB sleepers and picks for Week 20 of the 2017 Fantasy Baseball Season.

Welcome back readers. We've got less than four weeks before playoffs start so it's time to ramp up your efforts to improve your team before it's too late. First half standouts that aren't performing need to be disposed of, while for others it may be time to start streaming for categories. Whatever it is, we got you covered.

My offense deciding to play again combined with streaming quality arms have propelled me back to first in the Rotoballer League. It's no to time to get content though as there's plenty of baseball to play, so finding free agent gems will be key to my and your success down the stretch.

Because I'll be covering more players, my analysis will be shorter and to the point. Feel free to find me on Twitter @Max_Petrie and ask me to explain more personally. I'll be happy to do so, and I will even contort the waiver pick-up to your own team and situation. Best of luck to you all.

Digging Deeper: Week 20 Picks

Kolten Wong (2B/OF, STL) - 17% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

The Cardinals have made the NL Central a serious race (no offense, Brewers) with their recent run, and Kolten Wong is a big component. Over his last 44 at-bats, Wong is hitting .409 with 12 runs, 10 RBI, and a steal. He's now hitting .307 on the year and is playing everyday for an offense that just got Dexter Fowler back. His multi-position eligibility is for MI formats and should be higher owned given his recent success. Let's change that.

Cory Spangenberg (2B/3B/OF, SD) - 17% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

The Padres continue to be a sneaky offense and seem to be on this list every week given the Padres reputation for mediocrity. It's time we stop profiling and give these guys a shot. The latest is Spangenberg, who's always provided good speed but now finds himself batting 6th after Yangervis Solarte/Wil Myers. That gives him RBI spots, and he's made them count. He's 10-for-26 (.385) with three HR and six RBI and a steal in his past six games. Another multi-position player who can provide an offensive boost in the interim.

Matt Joyce (OF, OAK) - 2% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

Need some cheap power? Look no further. Joyce is hitting .300 with three HR and seven RBI in his last 30 at-bats and has led off the past five games he has started. At 2% ownership, this is one we can all reap the benefits from (I hope).

Jake Junis (SP, KC)19% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

It's funny how baseball works. The Royals needed a starter so they traded for Trevor Cahill. Cahill gets hurt and the Royals call Junis back up after his rough stint in the first half. He proceeds to deal and show some of the promise he displayed at Triple-A Omaha. In his past two starts (14 IP), Junis has picked up two wins while allowing two runs (1.93 ERA) along with nine strikeouts. Junis has a two-start week coming up versus the Indians for those with limited adds. It's a tough opponent, but I'll give him a shot at home.

Wade Miley (SP, SEA) - 11% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

Miley has been Jekyll and Hyde this year, but it looks like the doctor is back in business. Miley has allowed four earned runs in his past four starts including impressive outings at Oakland and Seattle his past two outings. Do I trust Miley? No. Will I stream him his next time out? You betcha.

Miguel Gonzalez (SP, CWS) - 4% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

A personal favorite of mine, Gonzalez is back to being a savvy stream candidate. His numbers look rough (4.85 ERA/1.49 WHIP) but he's performed better as of late. If you remove his nightmare outing versus the Red Sox, Gonzalez has a 1.99 ERA in July 18. He's not going to help in the WHIP category, but if you're looking for a safe floor on your streams this is a great option at only 4% ownership.
