Don’t be like the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays who have all passed on Danny Valencia’s abilities. The 3B was drafted in 2006 and it has been hard for him to find a true home since then. We can bet that he is hoping to find some stability at third base with the Oakland Athletics.
Danny Valencia will likely be the starting 3B for the Oakland Athletics in 2016. Last year in just 105 games split between the Blue Jays and the Athletics, he hit 18 home runs and 66 RBI, all with a .519 SLG. His .229 ISO and .329 BABIP point to developing power. He has also shown the ability to move the ball around the field, pulling just 47.3% of his hard-hit balls. He has hit at Fenway Park, Camden Yards, and Kaufman Stadium, so we will have to monitor how a move to a bigger park impacts his progress.
Valencia was more of a wavier-wire add than a draft pick in 2015. This year, look for Valencia in the late rounds if you need some infield help.
