The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a contract with free agent pitcher Johnny Cueto, according to ESPN.com.
The right-hander will sign a six-year, $130 million deal, pending a physical. There’s an opt-out clause after the 2017 season. This comes a few weeks after Cueto declined a six-year, $120 million offer from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Instead, he signs for $10 million more to a team that has won the World Series three times over the last five seasons.

The 29-year-old had a 2.62 ERA with the Cincinnati Reds before being traded to the Kansas City Royals at the deadline. He fished the regular season with a 4.76 ERA, 1.45 WHIP over 81 1/3 innings with the Royals before an up-and-down postseason run. He’s a World Series champion, which gives the Giants even more players that know what it’s like to win in October.
Cueto was one of the better pitchers on the market this off-season. Zack Greinke and Jordan Zimmerman already signed new deals, which made Cueto the top pitcher left. Over the last five seasons, he owns a 2.71 ERA over 134 starts. All of those seasons except a few months were spent in the National League, which is a good sign for things to come for the starter.
