"You like that, you like that?"
Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins should like his matchup this week against a Saints defense that ranks 30th in passing yards allowed per game. The Saints are giving up 292 passing yards per game to opponents and they're allowing approximately 30 points per game, which ranks 31st in the league.
While Cousins hasn't exactly been amazing through the air, he does have 1,954 yards and 10 passing touchdowns so far this season. Cousins will also be looking for redemption after a poor performance las week against a solid New England Patriots defense. He's proven that he can produce against bad defenses, though. Two weeks ago against the 29th ranked Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense, Cousins had his best performance of the year, throwing for 317 yards and three touchdowns. If Cousins can get in going early against the Saints, he should be able to put up big numbers.
One guy that Cousins will look to throw to early and often will be tight end Jordan Reed. Reed is by far the favorite target for Cousins and has proven to be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses all season. So far this season, Reed has 38 receptions for 368 yards and four touchdowns in just six games. Reed missed two games this season with a concussion and has struggled with concussions and other injuries his whole career, but he's a mismatch when he's healthy. This week's matchup with the Saints is more than favorable for Reed. The Saints have given up a league-high 24 passing touchdowns this season and are fresh off of allowing Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker to catch seven passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns las week.
If you own Jordan Reed in fantasy, he's a must-play today. The Saints defense is prone to giving up big plays through the air, and Reed is the guy to make those plays on Washington's team. I don't necessarily think Kirk Cousins is a must-start, be he is certainly a viable option today. The Saints are sixth in the league in points per game with approximately 27 per contest, so I expect the Redskins to throw a lot to keep up with the high-powered Saints. I envision 300 yards, two passing touchdowns and two interceptions from Cousins and seven grabs for 85 yards and two touchdowns for Reed.
