There aren't many things sweeter than when you get a huge performance from a player on your fantasy team that was completely unexpected. When a player on your team who you were hoping would get you just six or seven points gets you double that amount (or even more), it's a great feeling. So if you played the likes of Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart or Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden, you were definitely a very happy owner when you checked your fantasy team Sunday evening.
Despite rushing for 78 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Seattle Seahawks, Jonathan Stewart has had a disappointing season overall. Prior to last week's game against the Seahawks, he failed to reach the endzone for a touchdown, and prior to Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Stewart had yet to crack 100 yards on the ground. Stewart changed the latter with a huge game on the ground, rushing the ball 24 times for a total of 125 yards in a win a 27-16 win against the Eagles. After a slow start to the season, Stewart seems like he is on the right track. He is a solid RB2, borderline RB1 option next week against the weak rushing defense of the Indianapolis Colts.
Cowboys running back Darren McFadden likely haunts the nightmares of any fantasy owners who had him on their teams in the past when he was a member of the Oakland Raiders. Despite the vitriol many fantasy owners may have for the oft-injured Arkansas product, he still has the ability to run the ball effectively, and showed as much in Sunday's game against the Giants, where he rushed the ball 29 times for 152 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys backfield has been a mess all season, with no running back being able to take hold of the starting position. The backfield may have a bit more clarity after McFadden's performance on Sunday. While you probably can't expect a duplicate performance from McFadden next week against the Seattle Seahawks, it is very likely that the Cowboys will turn to McFadden again to be a workhorse, especially with the Dallas's struggles at quarterback. McFadden is an intriguing flex play next week.
