Oakland Raiders running back Latavius Murray isn't making excuses for the struggles his team has had in the running game during the first five games of the season. He has taken full responsibility for the lack of productivity.
"Attention to detail is key, and that starts with me," Murray said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "When it comes to running struggles, I’ll put it on me. It starts with me being the best runner I can be and trusting those guys up front."
Although Murray hasn't put up great numbers, he hasn't been as awful as some seem to believe. He has 336 yards and two touchdowns on 80 carries thus far this season. He's averaging a pretty good 4.2 yards per carry. He also has recorded 98 yards on 17 receptions.
The problem with the Raiders running game doesn't seem to be Murray, rather it's how the team is using him. The coaching staff has benched him in the second half of games already twice this season because they don't seem to trust him during crunch time. Oakland has started to let running back Roy Helu play a lot more, especially in passing situations, because of his receiving ability.
Murray can be considered a RB2 against the San Diego Chargers in Week 7 when the Raiders return from the bye week.
