Yadier Molina has been ruled out for the remained of the regular season with a thumb injury but still could return for the postseason.
The St. Louis Cardinals catcher hasn’t played since Sept. 20 after suffering the thumb injury while applying a tag at the plate. Molina has been prescribed another week of rest by the team’s doctor. The 33-year-old will be re-evaluated on Sunday or Monday.

Molina is dealing with a slight ligament tear in his left thumb that doesn't really affect him catching but his bat could be in question because of it. In the meantime, Tony Cruz will be the catcher in St. Louis. Cruz owns a .190 BA but has a hit in six of his last seven games.
The Cardinals have won two World Series championships with Molina as the catcher. He’s a tough player to replace not because of his .270 BA with 4 HR and 61 RBI but because of his chemistry with the pitching staff over the years. When a pitcher throws to Molina over the course of a year, the player seems to pitch a lot better.
The first game of the postseason for St. Louis will be a week from Friday.
