Week 2 Quick Hit Quarterback (QB) Rankings Analysis

By Edward Gorelik (@EdwardGorelik)

I'm not feeling it with Andrew Luck this week. Don't take that as an overreaction to last week's debacle against Buffalo. The Jets defense is a similarly-sized wrecking ball as the one in Buffalo, and this time Luck isn't likely to have a healthy T.Y. Hilton helping him stretch the field.

Darrelle Revis has already seen and smothered Moncrief and Luck before (in the 2014 AFCCG he matched up primarily with Moncrief), while Antonio Cromartie has already seen and shut down Andre Johnson in their last meeting (2012 regular season game).

Although Cromartie might not be playing this week, the diminished Johnson isn't nearly as much of a threat as he was in years previous. And with only one capable passing target on the field, this passing offense doesn't look all that scary.

It's hard to see Luck falling out of QB1 status this week, especially playing at home, but he's not someone I could imagine scoring in the top five this week.

Rising far above the consensus for me is Colin Kaepernick. Trent Dilfer's way too obvious and annoying love of Kaepernick during the MNF game probably made most viewers sick to their stomach. But he wasn't wrong-- Kaepernick does look improved. However, even an improved Kaepernick still needs better weapons than what he's currently playing with to succeed.

Aging veterans Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis aren't enough to put fear into defenses, and Torrey Smith has more value on the field than he does in fantasy. However, the Steelers defense looks horrendous.

It's nearly impossible to ignore that they boast one of the least-talented defensive rosters in the league, and are transitioning from long time defensive coordinator Dick Lebeau. Kaepernick's got a chance to put up some startable numbers when the matchup looks this easy.
