Chase Anderson (SP, ARI) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in AL-Only Leagues, Deeper Mixed Leagues

ANALYSIS: Anderson was never an incredibly highly-regarded pitching prospect, but has finally found his way to the majors after being drafted by the D'backs in the ninth round of the 2009 draft. He had a rough go at Triple-A in 2013, posting a 5.73 ERA in 88 IP, but had been dominating in Double-A so far in 2014, posting a 0.69 ERA and a 8.00 K/BB ratio in 39 IP. He was given a shot at the big leagues as a result of Mike Bolsinger's struggles and eventual demotion. Save one start against LAD, only the second of his career, Anderson has been relatively effective and consistent, earning a 2.23 ERA in his other five outings. The most important thing to note when scouting Anderson is that, for the most part, he has been going deeper into games with each start. He had a minor setback in his most recent outing, against the Dodgers once again, as he surrendered a season-high four walks. Still, the Diamondbacks seem to be trusting him more and more as he garners more professional experience. His 5-0 record does have a little bit to do with luck, considering his MLB-leading 31% line drive percentage has only yielded 30 hits in 33.2 IP, but Anderson is definitely worthy of a fantasy play in deeper leagues or in AL-only leagues, as long as he continues to get outs and go deeper into games.
