The New York Jets have requested to interview San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Brian Griese for their head-coach opening, according to sources. The Jets are searching for new leadership after firing former head coach Robert Saleh after just five games in 2024. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich ultimately led the Jets to a disappointing 5-12 finish for third in the AFC East. In addition to Griese, the Jets are casting a wide net for their head-coaching position, which includes a long list of former head coaches. Griese is an unlikely candidate to win the job in New York given the fact that he just finished his third season as San Fran's QBs coach after spending the previous two years as an ESPN analyst. He's mostly credited with helping Brock Purdy quickly transition into the 49ers starting QB back in late 2022. Griese has never served as an offensive coordinator or called plays in the NFL.--Keith Hernandez
