Byron Buxton Undergoes Arthroscopic Knee Surgery
1 year agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (knee) underwent an arthroscopic procedure to excise the plica in his right knee on Friday, which the Twins hope will alleviate the patellar tendinitis risk and symptoms moving forward. The plan remains to get Buxton ready to play center field in 2024. Buxton was a late addition to the roster for the American League Division Series against the Houston Astros to replace the injured Alex Kirilloff (shoulder), but he was hitless in his lone pinch-hit appearance. The 29-year-old didn't play a single game in center field in 2023 while battling knee and other injuries along the way. Buxton finished with a disappointing .207 average (63-for-304) with 17 homers, 42 RBI and nine stolen bases. At this point, it's downright unrealistic to expect him to make it through a full season healthy.
