Is Yordan Alvarez Injured or Healthy? Fantasy Baseball Injury Update

Yordan Alvarez - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Is Yordan Alvarez injured or healthy for today's game? Sam looks at the latest MLB injury reports and the fantasy baseball injury outlook for Yordan Alvarez.

The Houston Astros are annually one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. This year has been no exception as they are once again off to a hot start, just a half-game out of first place in the AL West.

The team once again has a formidable lineup, with outfielder Yordan Alvarez right in the middle of it all. He already has six home runs and 27 RBIs and we are still in the month of April. However, there is trouble in paradise.

The slugger is injured, and his status is in question. Will Alvarez be out for an extended period? Let's take a look at the reports to try and find an answer.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Yordan Alvarez Injury Update

What exactly is happening with the young stud hitter isn't yet clear. What we do know, is that he is suffering from a neck injury that has been bothering him for quite some time. In sports, there are multiple injuries that cause concern, but when it comes to things like the neck and hip, the panic level automatically rises.

According to team manager Dusty Baker earlier this week, Alvarez is still feeling discomfort and his playing status moving forward is TBD. He is still experiencing pain, and a trip to the IL has not been ruled out.

Baker said Tuesday that his 25-year-old star hasn't shown much improvement, and the club is working with team doctors to determine a possible course of action. Not exactly showering us with good news, as the latest update is sounding quite ominous for at least the immediate future.

Yordan Alvarez Fantasy Baseball Outlook

This is little doubt that Alvarez has certainly had issues with the injury bug early in his career. He often finds himself out of the lineup or seeing team doctors. Since entering the league in 2019, he played 87 games in his inaugural campaign, just two in the 2020 shortened 60-game season, and 144 and 135 in 2021 and 2023 respectively.

When healthy, Alvarez is a monster. In just over four years in the big leagues, the slugger has compiled 104 HR and 310 RBI and averaged a .970 OPS and a .294 AVG. The man can swing a big bat and should be rostered, started, and drafted high in all fantasy formats.

With all that said fantasy owners should be prepared to be without him for periods of time throughout the season. He hasn't yet proven to be a symbol of durability, however, his talent is so dazzling that he is an invaluable piece on any championship roster.
He will miss his fourth consecutive game on Friday because of his neck injury, and his status for the team's weekend series against Philadelphia doesn't sound promising, with a trip to the injured list likely on the immediate horizon.
