He was impressive at the NFL Combine, as well, which resulted his name being called at the end of the third round.
Vannett was drafted by the Seahawks, which hurts his re-draft stock. He’ll begin his career behind Jimmy Graham and a couple other tight ends. While it isn’t out of the question that Vannett could immediately jump passed guys like Luke Wilson and Cooper Helfet, he will need an injury to Jimmy Graham to become the top tight end on the team. Rookie tight ends have also struggled to adapt to the NFL early in their careers, which is why Vannett should not be on your re-draft radar.
Vannett has all the skills to be a successful NFL tight end, as he is strong enough to block and athletic enough to be a viable receiving option. He isn’t in a good situation, though, as he’s going to be stuck behind Jimmy Graham for years to come. Regardless of how good Vannett is, teams generally do not have elite second tight ends in terms of fantasy. Vannett does have some dynasty league appeal, but he should not be a top option, as his opportunities will likely be limited for the next couple of years.
