Once the Rams and Eagles traded for the top two picks, that left a few question marks surrounding the 49ers. They eventually drafted a quarterback in Driskel late in the sixth round.
While it isn’t completely out of the question that Driskel could have a great preseason and beat out Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick for the starting job, it most likely will not happen. Driskel likely will not have a role in the offense this season, and he isn’t a player that needs to be drafted in re-draft leagues.
Driskel is an intriguing dynasty prospect. He landed in a great situation, as the 49ers current quarterbacks have continuously struggled in the NFL. Driskel struggled with multiple offensive coordinators at Florida before throwing for 4,026 yards and 27 touchdowns at Louisiana Tech in his final season. He also ran for 323 yards and 5 touchdowns that year. He has all the physical tools and athleticism for Chip Kelly’s offense in the NFL, but he struggled mightily throughout his college career. It’s unlikely he will ever get a real opportunity in the NFL, but he has a ton of upside if he does ever see the field.
