Hector Santiago had a strong start to the 2015 season, earning his first-ever All-Star selection. Prior to the All-Star break, the left-handed thrower sported an impressive 2.23 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, but a second-half collapse saw him finish the season having given up 29 home runs, the highest total of any American League pitcher. Despite this, Santiago finished the season with a 9-9 record while also recording 162 strikeouts and a decent 3.59 ERA -- his fourth year in a row finishing with an ERA under 3.75. Santiago also notched career highs in starts (32) and innings pitched (180.2) during the 2015 campaign.
In terms of overall value, Santiago probably isn't as good as his first-half All-Star effort was last season, but he's also not as bad as his second-half collapse would seem to indicate. Solid (and most importantly, consistent) performances in Spring Training seem to have cemented his place into the Angels' starting pitching rotation -- after six outings, Santiago has notched a 3.52 ERA, striking out 26 batters in 23 innings of work. While these are hardly the numbers of a world-beater, Santiago could provide solid pitching depth to your fantasy lineup as a late-round pickup, especially if he manages to replicate his first-half run from 2015 sometime during the course of the upcoming season. If that happens, Santiago will prove to be quite a steal indeed.
