BALLER MOVE: Target ~200 Overall
ANALYSIS: Last year, Nick Castellanos carried extra hype in my fantasy leagues, so there was no way I was spending a draft pick on him. Now, he’s basically fallen off the fantasy baseball radar.
Still only 22, Castellanos managed to hit .259 with 12 HR, despite a .326 BABIP and a crazy high 28.5% LD% (line drive percentage). This typically leads to regression in batting average, but count me among the believers. If Castellanos can make strides to improve his plate discipline (6.2% BB%, 24.2% K% in 2014), he should be able to maintain his average and improve upon his power numbers.
Currently our 25th ranked third baseman, Castellanos carries great value in deeper leagues as a sneaky power source. I envision a .275/15/75 line for 2015, which would place him in the top 15 at the position. I’d rather have Castellanos than Marcus Semien, Brett Lawrie or Martin Prado.
