ANALYSIS: Hernandez played in a total of 134 games for Toronto in 2018 and while he came out of the gates hot after an April call-up, he finished by slashing .239/.302/.468 with 22 home runs, 57 RBI and 163 strikeouts in 476 at-bats. He swung and missed a ton (31.2 percent strikeout rate), but when he did make contact he hit it very hard. The 26-year-old Dominican has plenty of power potential in his lumber but will need to keep hitting if he's to play every day, because his defense in the outfield is pretty atrocious.
He had a positive spring training, hitting .314/.407/.451 with two homers and nine RBI, and he's one of Toronto's better power bats until third base prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. arrives in the big leagues. Lefty hitter Billy McKinney could steal some playing time away from Hernandez, but as long as he's producing with the bat the Jays will keep him in the lineup. It also helps that Toronto plays in one of the most hitter-friendly home ballparks in the big leagues. If your fantasy team is already in need of more power, Hernandez is an intriguing option available in most leagues.
