Michael Fulmer's Struggles Continue
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer called his most recent performance, Tuesday's loss to the Angels, "embarrassing." It's reasonable, considering the success Fulmer has had over the last two seasons and the struggles he's experienced this year. In Tuesday's matchup with the Angels, Fulmer gave up five runs in just 3 1/3 innings of work. […]
Francisco Liriano Heads To Disabled List
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Francisco Liriano is heading to the 10-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain, club sources reported Tuesday. The veteran lefty has had a bit of a renaissance this season, turning in six straight quality starts to begin the season and flirting with a no-hitter earlier this month. But he was […]
Niko Goodrum is Out of Tuesday's Starting Lineup
Detroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Niko Goodrum (illness) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He left Monday's game due to dehydration, but it's unclear whether or not his absence from this game is related to Monday. JaCoby Jones will start in left field while Pete Kozma draws a start […]
James McCann's Grand Slam Powers Victory
Detroit Tigers catcher James McCann blasted a grand slam in the third inning of Monday's game, leading the offensive charge and propelling the Tigers to a 9-3 rout of the Angels. The blast was McCann's fourth homer of the season and came off of starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs. McCann has been a serviceable option for […]
Jordan Zimmermann Struggles In Rehab Start
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann (shoulder) has been on the disabled list since May 6 but made a rehab start over the weekend for Triple-A Toledo. Things didn't go well for Zim, who gave up seven runs, seven hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Zimmermann's velocity was fine, but he struggled […]
Miguel Cabrera Needs More Cardio Before Returning
Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera (hamstring) has been sidelined since May 4 but is making progress toward a return. Cabrera took batting practice on May 27 and ran the bases on the May 28, his fourth straight day of running. However, manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters Miggy was pretty winded following his running, and […]

Trading Up - Miles Mikolas
The legend of the Lizard King begins in 2011 when a young Miles Mikolas, a self-described picky eater, accepted a teammate’s bet to eat a live lizard in exchange for paying Mikolas’ Arizona Fall League dues. Mikolas agreed, coated the lizard in Moutain Dew, tasted it quickly, and paced for a moment. Then he crammed […]

Niko Goodrum Pulled Out of Monday's Game
Detroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Niko Goodrum (illness) was pulled out of Monday's 9-3 victory over the Angels. The team is calling the issue dehydration, so it does not sound too serious. Goodrum was having problems catching his breath, so the team decided to pull him out. He should be fine to play in Tuesday's contest.

Statcast Hitter Risers/Fallers - Hard Hit Rate
Those of you familiar with Fangraphs and their plethora of advanced stats have probably seen and evaluated Hard Hit rate before. Statcast keeps its own set of data based on exit velocity and even measures the number of balls leaving the bat over 95 mph. It's not surprising that the leaderboard is littered with superstars […]
AL-Only Waiver Wire Team of the Week: MLB Week 9
Every week in baseball, a significant player will hit the disabled list, slip into a slump, or get traded out of a good spot. How fantasy owners adapt to these situations can make or break the season as a whole. One lousy add might not hurt the long-term standing of a team, but failing to […]

Due to a combination of harder throwers and hitters focusing on hitting for power, strikeouts are at an all-time high in baseball. For pitchers, this is an ideal trend. The ability to generate swings and misses is the most important skill to possess, as it's the only true way to control what happens after the […]

Jeimer Candelario Clubs Two Homers Saturday
Detroit Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario (wrist) has been back in action for two games now since a stint on the 10-day disabled list with a wrist injury. The young switch-hitter has reached safely in each of his first two games back, but more impressive is the fact that Candelario launched two big-flies Saturday hitting […]
Nicholas Castellanos Snaps Multi-Hit Game Streak
Detroit Tigers right fielder Nicholas Castellanos had a streak of five consecutive multi-hit games heading into Saturday's action, but couldn't keep the streak alive as he went hitless against the White Sox. Still, he's separating himself as an elite fantasy player, especially considering his dual position eligibility (3B/OF). He's now hitting .325 on the year […]
Jeimer Candelario (3B, DET) - Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 18% of leagues ANALYSIS: Detroit Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario was a forgotten man as a utility player on most rosters. He missed time with left wrist tendinitis and returned with a two-homer performance in his second game back. This is a prime example why you do […]

Week 9 Waiver Wire - First Base (1B) and Third Base (3B)
The Corner Store is open! It is week nine and there are still so many good options on the waiver wire. Continue to stay fluid with your lineup and ride the hot hand. Don't get attached. However, make a decision and initiate movement to get that player. Do not let someone else grab them while […]

Detroit Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario (wrist) has been activated off the 10-day DL. He will resume his role as the starting third baseman, and hit third Friday night against the White Sox. Candelario is slashing .272/.359/.497 with five homers on the year. OF Mikie Mahtook was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.
James McCann (C, DET) - Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues OWNED IN: 25% of leagues ANALYSIS: The state of the catcher’s union is not strong this year, as Gary Sanchez is the class of the position with a .228 batting average. All that is to say, with this position, an owner can get value from many places, and […]

Detroit Tigers outfielder Nicholas Castellanos just keeps hitting. On Thursday, the slugger turned in his fourth consecutive two-hit game, his 19th multi-hit game of the season. Both hits in Thursday's game were of the two-base variety, and for the month of May he's now slashing .347/.390/.583. There aren't a lot of hitters who have been […]
Week 8 Waiver Wire - Catchers
The recent 80-game suspension of Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo for violating the Joint Drug Agreement caused a seismic shift in terms of add/drops at the position. Seriously, I looked at "Transaction Trends" on Yahoo! and enough people had dropped him recently to fill up a basketball arena. OK, maybe to two-thirds capacity. Still, […]
