BALLER MOVE: Bench in all fantasy fotmats
POSITIONAL VALUE: Low-end, risky fantasy signal-caller
ANALYSIS:
Howell was a breakout candidate entering the 2023-24 campaign. He had the tools necessary to be successful, specifically wide receivers Terry McLaurin, a Pro Bowler in 2022, up-and-comer Jahan Dotson, and speedster Curtis Samuel. Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson also showed promise to emerge as a legit one-two punch at the running back spot. Lastly, the team brought in offensive mastermind Eric Bieniemy, the former Chiefs' OC, who helped orchestrate one of the league's most potent offenses over the years.
In all fairness, Howell hasn't been a total bust from a fantasy standpoint. He's had a few impressive showings during the season, throwing for at least three touchdowns in three games this year. The 23-year-old has also amassed over 300 yards through the air five times. Unfortunately, Howell hasn't been consistent by any means, and he's coming off one of the worst showings of his career by throwing for 102 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while completing a hideous 42.3% of his throws in Week 15 versus the Rams.
His lackluster performance a week ago resulted in Jacoby Brissett taking over and tossing two touchdowns. But head coach Ron Rivera is sticking with Howell versus an adequate Jets defense. However, that doesn't mean the signal-caller should be trusted in any fantasy format, especially since there's a good chance he'll get benched if he plays poorly in Week 16. With Howell likely on a short leash versus the New York Jets, fantasy managers should keep him out of their starting lineups.
