One and Done Selections - Mayakoba Classic
Joe Nicely - Corey Conners
Alternate - Isidro Benitez
It's been a crazy and unprecedented year, which has led to a crazy and unprecedented golf season, which has led to a crazy and unprecedented OAD contest here at RotoBaller. All in all, a lot of "crazy and unprecedented" taking place in 2020, but we've finally reached the end of our RB Staff OAD Contest! Through it all, Spencer, Josh, and I have tried to bring a little fun into your week with these writeups...while hopefully helping you in your own OAD contests a little bit along the way. So, I won't spend any time talking about my Mayakoba pick, Corey Conners, but instead want to say "Thank You" to all of the readers that have stuck with us throughout this wild and long season. I'd also like to express my appreciation for both Spencer and Josh...friends that I have the utmost respect for. These guys work unbelievably hard behind the scenes to bring our readers great free and premium PGA content every week.
If I had to entrust my entire PGA bankroll to one guy for a season it would be Spencer. His weekly Vegas Report here at RotoBaller is a great testament to just how sharp he is with PGA odds and his PGA DFS Rankings Wizard is so analytically advanced that I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. To quote the movie Good Will Hunting..."the kid is wicked smaahht". Josh has really kinda smashed the expectations of what a Course Breakdown can be. His weekly use of Google Earth images takes us inside the ropes of every golf course on the schedule and his analysis of each hole is unbelievably helpful in identifying what type of player we should be targeting on any given week. He can also hit a golf ball PGA Tour distances with his driver...which really pisses me off. It's truly been my pleasure to work with these guys and compete against them in this contest this year. I can't wait for January so we can do it all over again!

Spencer Aguiar - Russell Henley
Alternate - Chris Kirk
Well, things didn't go quite according to plan during the last few months of this contest, but it was a fun ride that hopefully added some excitement and entertainment for everyone that reads this article weekly.
If your contest follows a similar structure that ours does, my advice would be to use your best player left on the board. For the sake of transparency, I will not be taking that route (Brooks Koepka) and will instead focus on games that are just starting from scratch. I feel like more of you out there will be in need of an early-season selection, and going with a powerhouse golfer at the Mayakoba Classic might not be the optimal route to take.
For me, that means a player like Russell Henley should be on your shortlist of options. The American hasn't finished outside of 37th-place over his last nine events, and it feels as if a victory might still be lurking around the corner if he can turn his woes around on the greens. Only Justin Thomas has gained more total strokes over the last 24 rounds, and no player in the field has been better with their irons. Henley isn't going to make you regret using him to start the year, and he might be able to ride his hot form into a massive payday.

Josh Bennett - Abraham Ancer
Alternate - Corey Conners
The end result for this contest isn’t what it looked like it might be at the beginning of the year for me, but I’m hoping to go out with a bang and bring some good momentum into the next contest. Somehow, someway, I didn’t use Ancer all season and have him left in a smash spot. It really is hard to find a reason not to like him in this event. He has great history here that includes two top 10’s in the last three years. He’s great off the tee and especially straight, which will be important on this course. He’s an overall good ball-striker, he’s a gamer, and in a place that is familiar and comfortable to him. He still has to put the ball in the hole obviously, but he should be near the top of the leaderboard coming down the stretch on Sunday. Ending the season on a win will work wonders for my level of trash talk heading into next year’s contest.
