Angels’ Outfielder Josh Hamilton met with MLB officials today in New York for a disciplinary hearing. While the exact details of the meetings aren’t known, this isn’t the first time Hamilton has faced disciplinary actions, as he struggled with cocaine and alcohol use in the past. He was suspended from 2003 to 2005 and could face an additional suspension this season. Already sidelined until May because of an injury, a suspension would keep Hamilton off the field even longer.
Josh Hamilton’s tenure in LA has been less than ideal. His on-field performance diminished after stellar seasons in Texas. After signing a five-year, $125 million dollar contract with the Angels prior to the 2013 season, his production dropped. In the three seasons since, Hamilton has struggled with his plate discipline and power numbers.
The Angels come into the season with high expectations. After winning the AL West last season, they are favorites to do the same this year. This distraction from Hamilton is one of the big question marks for the upcoming season. Until the exact details and results from the hearing are known, the Angels hope Hamilton can bounce back to the production of his 2010 MVP season.
