Yordan Alvarez 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Immense Power Comes With Risk
6 mins agoHouston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez enters 2025 with an early ADP around the 16th pick after hitting .308 with 35 home runs and six steals over 147 games (635 plate appearances) in 2024. Those games played were a high-water mark for the 27-year-old, who has battled injuries throughout his career. He didn't emerge unscathed though, as a right knee sprain forced him from the final week of the regular season. Alvarez was the designated hitter in the playoffs but January saw the slugger reveal that "there was a lot of damage" but that he felt better through December, which allowed him to avoid surgery. Still, Houston's manager Joe Espada made comments about limiting Alvarez's exposure in left field during the Winter Meetings. His bat gives fantasy managers a great source of power and an average orbiting .300 (early ATC projections return that exact average with 36 HR), but the lack of significant steals, a weaker Houston lineup, and durability concerns cannot be ignored. His early RotoBaller rank of 18 still has him inside the top 20, only slightly behind preliminary ADP.
