Yordan Alvarez 2023 Outlook: Arguably Baseball's Best Hitter
2 years agoHouston Astros outfielder and designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has arguably established himself as the sport's best hitter, both from a real-life baseball standpoint and a fantasy baseball standpoint. Alvarez hit .306 with a .406 on-base percentage in 561 plate appearances for the Houston Astros last season, slugging 37 home runs and adding a stolen base in the process. It's possible Alvarez, who finished in the 100th percentile in terms of hard-hit rate, xwOBA, barrel rate, xBA, and xwOBA last season, could have even better counting stats like RBI and runs scored in 2023 in a stacked Houston lineup. The Astros finished seventh in the league in runs scored this past year but could improve significantly with the addition of Jose Abreu, as well as if Jeremy Pena takes a step forward at the plate. With his elite ability at the plate and a similarly elite lineup around him, Alvarez should be a top-10 pick in drafts this coming spring.
