Yandy Diaz A Player On The Rise
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays third baseman Yandy Diaz already has three home runs in 2019 after hitting nine home runs in 1,099 plate appearances in 2017 and 2018 in the majors and minors combined. Diaz has never really been a power hitter coming up through the minors, but he's always hit the ball very hard. His 50.1 percent hard-hit rate in 49 games with the Indians in 2017 was fifth best in the league, but he also had trouble lifting the ball in the air. On the second day of the season, Diaz hit a line-drive home run that was hit at 112.2 mph off the bat, and it's the fourth time in his career he's touched that exit velocity. Diaz's launch angle is still pretty low in comparison to other big leaguers, but it's improving from what it was a few seasons ago. The 27-year-old is getting everyday playing time now and also makes contact consistently and doesn't strike out much. He continues to hit the ball hard and was batting .308 (12-for-39) with three homers, eight runs, four RBI and a steal in the early going. If Diaz remains on your waiver wire still, pick him up immediately, as a breakout could be coming.
