Yadier Molina Expected To Be Ready For Opening Day
6 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals expect catcher Yadier Molina (knee) to be ready by Opening Day. He has had no setbacks since undergoing left knee surgery two months ago, but the Cardinals plan to limit how much catching he does early in camp. "Yadi is going to be gaining his strength," manager Mike Shildt said. "He's not a guy, clearly, that we feel like we need to push. We're going to use the time with him, and he'll use the time himself, to continue to get [ready]." Molina will turn 37 in July and is in the back nine of his career, but he can still be useful to fantasy owners after he hit .261/.314/.436 with 20 home runs and 74 RBI in 503 plate appearances last season. He remains a top-10 fantasy backstop, but you'll want insurance behind him if he breaks down physically.
