6 years agoSan Francisco Giants relief pitcher Will Smith remains the leading candidate for the majority of save chances in 2019 after holding the closer role for the second half of last season and not allowing a run in three Cactus League innings this spring. Veteran Mark Melancon has shown improved health in camp, but he's also posted an 11.12 ERA in six spring appearances, which hasn't helped his cause. The lefty Smith had a 2.55 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 14 saves and 71 K's in 53 innings in 2018. While Melancon poses a threat, Smith is the obvious choice late in mixed league drafts to open the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
