White Sox Decline Liam Hendriks' 2024 Option
1 year agoThe Chicago White Sox declined relief pitcher Liam Hendriks' (elbow) $15 million option for the 2024 season, making him a free agent this offseason. The White Sox still owe him $15 million, but deferred over time. It was a tumultuous 2023 for the 34-year-old Australian right-hander, as he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma early in the year before eventually undergoing Tommy John surgery in August. Hendriks was able to beat cancer and made five relief appearances for the White Sox, allowed three earned runs while striking out three in five innings of work. The three-time All-Star will miss the majority of the 2024 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, so he won't really have any fantasy appeal next spring in redraft leagues.
