Whit Merrifield Finishes Season On High Note
6 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield finished the 2018 season leading the majors in both hits (192) and stolen bases (45). He became the first Royal ever to lead the league in both hits and stolen bases. Only two players since 1945 have led the majors in both categories -- Ichiro Suzuki in 2001 and Dee Gordon in 2015. Merrifield also ended the season on a 20-game hitting streak. He ends the year with a .304/.367/.438 slash line, 12 home runs, 60 RBI, 88 runs scored and 45 stolen bases. Needless to say, Merrifield was a bright spot on a bad Royals team this year. He's extremely attractive to fantasy owners because of his ability to contribute across all categories, along with his position eligibility.
