Wade Davis Will Enter Season As Closer
5 years agoColorado Rockies manager Bud Black made it clear that relief pitcher Wade Davis will be the team's closer, with Scott Oberg as the primary setup man. "In a perfect world, Wade is our closer and Scotty pitches in front of him in some capacity," Black said. "That's based on Wade's great track record... That's our best scenario." The veteran reliever had 15 saves and an atrocious 8.65 ERA and 1.88 WHIP in 42 2/3 innings over 50 outings last year for Colorado. That came after a career- and league-high 43 saves in 2018. But Coors Field isn't an easy place to pitch, and Davis will be on a short leash in 2020 if he struggles out of the gates, especially since Oberg was the team's best reliever last season.
