Tyler Mahle Starts Rehab Assignment On Tuesday
5 months agoTexas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (elbow) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. Manager Bruce Bochy said it's expected that Mahle will throw around 35 to 40 pitches, depending on how stressful his first couple of innings are. Mahle had Tommy John surgery when he was with the Minnesota Twins last May, but the Rangers still signed him to a two-year, $22 million deal in the offseason. His injury ruined a promising 2023, as Mahle had a 3.16 ERA with 28 strikeouts over five starts with the Twins. Mahle was officially moved to the 60-day injured list at the start of the regular season. Barring any setbacks, the 29-year-old could make his Rangers debut at some point in August and will be worth a look as a deep-league streamer in the right matchups.
