Trevor Rosenthal's Stock On The Rise
4 years agoFree-agent relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal was a top-tier reliever in 2020 with the Royals and Padres and is one of the top available relief arms on the open market. Rosenthal was one of MLB's best relievers from 2012-17 with the Cardinals, but Tommy John surgery caused him to miss all of 2018 and he was horrendous in 2019 with three different teams when he walked 30.9 percent of the batters he faced in the big leagues. But the hard-throwing right-hander returned to form in 2020 with a 1.90 ERA and 4.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 23 games. His four-seam heater was elite last year, and he was able to spot it up effectively, which wasn't the case in 2019 in his first year back from surgery. While 2020 was a small sample size, Rosenthal showed excellent velocity and command, which makes him a nice low-cost fantasy reliever if he signs with a team that will put him in high-leverage situations at the back end of their bullpen.
