Trevor Rogers Generating Plenty Of Whiffs
4 years agoMiami Marlins rookie left-hander Trevor Rogers has generated a 51.1 percent whiff rate on his four-seam fastball this year, and that was prior to his start on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. Batters are missing his 95.5 mph average fastball over half the time when they swing at it. Jacob deGrom ranks second on four-seam whiff rate at only 39 percent. Rogers' fastball is good because of its running action, spin rate and command. The southpaw has also increased his fastball usage from 54.2 percent in 2019 to 59.1 percent in 2021. Wednesday not included, Rogers has struck out 16 batters over 10 innings in his first two starts. Through three starts, he has a 2.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 23 K's over 15 innings. He needs to be started everywhere in his next start against the Baltimore Orioles.
