Tony La Russa Stepping Down Due To Health Concerns
2 years agoChicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa announced on Monday that he'll be stepping down as the skipper because of health concerns that kept him away from the team for the final five weeks of the season. He will turn 78 on Tuesday and hasn't managed since Aug. 30 after doctors told him he needed to undergo further testing related to a heart issue. La Russa was under contract through the 2023 season, but he won't be back with the team next year. La Russa said his "overall prognosis is good, and I want to thank everyone who has reached out to me with well wishes related to my health." The White Sox are hoping to at least finish .500 on the year or above for the third straight season in the final three games this week under acting manager Miguel Cairo.
