Tigers Sticking With Shane Greene As Closer
6 years agoDetroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said he is sticking with relief pitcher Shane Greene as the closer after he allowed two home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Monday to blow the save against the White Sox. Greene has allowed six runs in his last five outings. "He threw one time in four days," Gardenhire said. "He's our closer. He gets the ball. He just made two bad pitches. That's silly to think we'd go with someone else. No. He gets the ball." Greene hasn't been the best fantasy closer with his 4.72 ERA and 1.34 WHIP, but he does have 28 saves. Joe Jimenez hasn't been much better, so Detroit will stick with Greene for now.
