Tigers Reach Deal With Jonathan Schoop
5 years agoThe Detroit Tigers signed second baseman Jonathan Schoop to a one-year, $6.1 million deal on Saturday, according to a source. Schoop is expected to be the starting second baseman and hit in the middle of the order for a rebuilding Tigers squad in 2020. The 28-year-old hit .256 with 23 home runs, 59 RBI and a .777 OPS in 121 games in his only season with the Twins in 2019. Schoop has four straight seasons with 20-plus homers and brings fantasy owners some nice power at the keystone position. However, his value will take a slight hit moving to a less fearsome lineup. No Tigers player hit more than 15 home runs last season, so Detroit can certainly use Schoop's power.
