Thomas Greiss, Semyon Varlamov Register A Team Shutout
5 years agoNew York Islanders goaltenders Thomas Greiss and Semyon Varlamov combined for the third team shutout in franchise history on Saturday in a 2-0 win against Columbus. Anders Lee and Mathew Barzal provided the goals. Greiss started and had nine saves before leaving the game late in the opening period. Varlamov finished off the job with 30 straight saves. Tommy Salo and Wade Flaherty were the last Islanders goalies to produce a team shutout in 1998. Both Greiss and Varlamov have been in very good form this season. The German has done a bit better, producing the second-best goals-against average in the league (2.10) and the third-best save percentage (.931).
