Texans Expected To Exercise Deshaun Watson's Option
5 years agoThe Houston Texans are expected to exercise quarterback Deshaun Watson's fifth-year club option for the 2021 season before the May 4 deadline, according to sources. It's just a procedural formality, though, because the Texans fully intend on negotiating a long-term deal with the Pro Bowl signal-caller. Watson's fifth-year option is projected to cost $17.3 million in 2021. He finished as fantasy's No. 5 quarterback in 2019 by throwing for 3,852 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Watson is also valuable as a high-end QB1 because of his rushing ability, as he ran the ball 82 times for 413 rushing yards and an additional seven touchdowns. Losing his top wideout in DeAndre Hopkins makes him a little bit more risky, but he still has plenty of weapons in the passing game.
