Taylor Rogers Will Serve As Padres Closer
3 years agoSan Diego Padres relief pitcher Taylor Rogers will be the team's closer, according to manager Bob Melvin. The Padres acquired Rogers and outfielder Brent Rooker from the Minnesota Twins on Thursday morning in exchange for starting pitcher Chris Paddack and relief pitcher Emilio Pagan. It was assumed that Rogers would be the Padres ninth-inning man after they traded for him, but it's now official. Relievers Robert Suarez and Dinelson Lamet will serve as late-inning setup men for Rogers, who has 48 saves in the last three seasons with the Twins. The left-hander isn't exactly known as an overpowering closer, but he does have an average K/9 of 12.0 in the last three seasons, and he should see plenty of save chances in San Diego.
