Steven Matz Avoids Arbitration
6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $2.625 million deal. He made just $577,000 last season. While Matz doesn't have the upside of Jacob deGrom or Zack Wheeler, he finally was able to stay healthy in 2018 and make more than 22 starts. The left-hander was 5-11 with a 3.97 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and career-high 8.9 K/9 in 30 starts (154 innings). He also posted a career-high 3.4 BB/9, though. Matz is more of a matchup-based streamer in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
