Starling Marte Back On Marlins Radar
3 years agoFree-agent outfielder Starling Marte is back on the Miami Marlins radar, and the team has met with his representatives. With the Marlins looking for bats this offseason, Marte still fits them well, but the issue will be the price. It's unusual for a team to re-sign a player that they previously traded, and Marte will have a big market this winter considering his skill set and strong finish to 2021. Since the 2019 season, he has hit an impressive .291/.357/.472 (122 OPS+) with 41 home runs and 82 steals with the Pirates, Diamondbacks, Marlins and Athletics. He his .308/.381/.456 with 12 home runs and 47 stolen bases with Miami and Oakland last year and is the only active player with more than 125 homers and 275 steals in his career. Marte's defense hasn't been as strong in center field the last couple years, so whoever signs him may choose to move him back to left field. The Yankees, Phillies and Mets have also shown interest in him.
